About the Architect:
I graduated from the University of California , Berkeley in 1965, I have practiced architecture in Carmel, California since 1972. Most of my work has been in Monterey County with the majority done in Carmel-by-the-Sea. I have established a good working relationship with the City of Carmel and the County of Monterey, although not limited to these areas. Having been involved in hands on construction has given me an appreciation for the practical aspects of construction. My experience dealing with city and county government has resulted in being able to process my design applications efficiently.
My approach to providing architectural services is to carefully determine the Client's needs and preferences and do my best to meet them.
Given the opportunity, I prefer simple, modern design that incorporates maximum glazing, generous open interior spaces, enclosed with metal roofing, concrete and stone. The form of the build needs to carry the design.
It is also vitally important to create a solution that provides the Owner with maximum fire protection. Fire resistant siding, soffits, roofing and tempered thermopane windows go a long way toward surviving fires.
It is my objective to incorporate energy efficient design methods that meet or exceed Net Zero solutions. I believe in energy independence that incorporates both active and passive solar design concepts. An all electric project that includes heat pumps, radiant heating, solar photovoltaic, battery backup, generous insulation, and sun orientation, can result in a solution that is energy independent, fire resistant and cost effective. Today making homes handicapped accessible, to allow aging in place, is one of my objectives.
The home I have recently created for my family at 25345 Tierra Grande Drive, Carmel, California incorporates much of these design concepts.
